SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Senior Medical Writer will be part of the Medical Writing and Publishing Groups, and will assume primary responsibility for the preparation of clinical documents according to global agency guidance, specifications, templates, style guides, and Standard Operating Procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Prepare documents in accordance with applicable US and International regulations under the supervision of the Manager, Medical Writing and Publishing Groups. Documents include but are not limited to: Investigator Brochures, Phase 1 through 4 clinical protocols and amendments, clinical study reports, clinical and non-clinical sections of CTD-formatted applications (Modules 2, 4, and 5), package inserts, Integrated Summary of Safety reports, and Integrated Summary of Efficacy reports.

2. Lead review meetings and provide guidance on a wide range of issues related to document preparation and production.

3. Participate on functional teams that address requirements or issues related to document preparation and production.

4. Liaison with contacts outside of the company. Determine specific needs and organize the assembly of an appropriate response. Effectively communicate issues to other department personnel and company management, as appropriate.

5. Write and edit Standard Operating Procedures, as necessary.

6. Maintain knowledge of current regional regulations in regard to document format. Assesses impact of regulation changes to current work procedures and SOPs. Update procedures and SOPs as appropriate and train personnel regarding all revisions.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Attend seminars and courses to maintain career growth and to stay updated on changes with Agency guidance and medical writing.

Education required/ preferred:
Minimum of a Bachelor degree in life science

Experience:
5-8 years relevant medical writing/pharmaceutical experience
Knowledge of ICH and FDA guidance
Proficiency with electronic document editing and management systems

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
English proficiency and fluency
Ability to conceptually organize, analyze, and interpret data
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Must be able to adapt to changing priorities and be a fast learner
Must be able to set and manage multiple priorities and projects to compete tasks within established timelines

Market Scope, LLC, is an industry research, analysis and reporting firm that specializes in the eye care industry and the global marketplace for ophthalmic products. We are the primary data gathering organization in this industry, and manufacturers, investors, and ophthalmologists rely upon us for the latest industry information.

We are seeking a writer/assistant editor who will assist the managing editor in preparing Market Scope reports and newsletters for publication. The position is full time and in house, and the writer/assistant editor will report to Market Scope’s managing editor of publications.

Currently our publications include 15 regularly updated comprehensive reports on various segments in the ophthalmic industry (refractive surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment are examples). Our reports address epidemiological issues, discussions of diseases and conditions, technologies used for diagnosis and treatment, pharmaceuticals and their mechanisms of action, and future technologies and pharmaceuticals in the development pipeline, in addition to analysis of the marketplace and market forecasting. We publish a monthly newsletter that covers market data and news and issues in the ophthalmic industry. We also publish a quarterly newsletter and survey analysis produced for ophthalmic surgeons.

The writer/assistant editor will assist in editing reports written by Market Scope’s stable of subject matter specialists. He or she will write for our newsletters, in addition to editing and proofreading those newsletters. He or she will also prepare reports and newsletters for publication using desktop publishing.

Requirements:

Writing/editing experience in medicine, science and/or technology is highly desirable. Desktop publishing experience is an important plus.

Our history...

1964 - The St. Louis Chapter was granted permanent status. We also earned a national award for doubling our membership.
1983 - St. Louis hosted the 30th annual STC Conference (know then as the ITCC Conference).
1999 - The chapter started the Corporate Sponsorship program which was a first for STC.
2000 - St. Louis won the Pacesetter Award for the Corporate Sponsorship program.
2002 - St. Louis hosted the Region 6 Conference.
2004 - Celebrated our 40th birthday.
